Overview

Orrick currently has an excellent opportunity for a Senior Manager of Business Development Operations, Technology and Data Management. This position could be based in any of our U.S. offices (Austin; Chicago; Boston; Houston; Los Angeles; New York; Menlo Park; Orange County; Portland; Sacramento; San Francisco; Santa Monica; Seattle; Washington DC; or Wheeling, WV) with consideration given for 100% remote US locations.

The Objective. As the Senior Manager of Business Development Operations, Technology and Data Management, you will build a business development function that supports our lawyers in solving our clients' needs of the future.

What will I do? Working closely with the firm's Managing Partner for Strategic Alignment, Chief Marketing Officer, Digital Marketing Director and other business partners, you'll take on this new role and help us transform our business development function to focus on operational excellence and important tech and data management initiatives that directly support firm business development and client relationship strategy. You will bring a relentless focus on operational improvement and innovation to all you do.

Responsibilities

How will I spend my time? You will spend most of your time on these responsibilities:

Project Management Intake and Tracking

    Lead project intake and management tracking as well as task, resource and workflow management and distribution for shared services support personnel.
  • Monitor operational flow, including prioritizing workload and the timely resolution of escalations.
  • Develop and manage processes and best practices for analytics and reporting on project management details and statistics, including ROI.

Business Development Planning and Budgeting Process

  • Develop and manage processes for the creation of thoughtful and detailed business development plans and budgets, appropriate tracking and communication about spend.

Client CLE Program Management

  • Oversee creation and provision of CLE library to engage clients.

Experience and Knowledge Management Optimization

  • Develop and oversee experience and knowledge management systems.
  • Collaborate with business partners to support the expansion of data management strategies.

Time Management Optimization

  • Develop and drive an action plan to implement the time recording system into the department.
  • Develop and manage processes and best practices for analytics and reporting on time entry.

Centralized MarTech Strategy

  • Play a leading role in assessing, piloting and leveraging evolving technology.
  • Supervise the use of responsible AI, including reviewing automation opportunities, testing AI output and operationalizing the tool.

Data Team Management

  • Manage the team of data analysts to optimize how we leverage and glean insights from our data.
  • Oversee data reporting needs to capitalize on market trends and business generation opportunities.

Process Improvement

  • Continuously identify inefficiencies and collaborate with business partners to implement improved tech, people and process solutions.
  • Collaborate and Interface with the Digital transformation team, Innovation, Digital Marketing and IT teams on the development and implementation of any new tools, systems or processes for the department.
  • Lead the Shared Services team in improving the quality and consistency of deliverables in measurable ways.
  • Develop training to facilitate continuing education on new tools, systems, processes and best practices.

Coordination and Communication

  • Effectively communicate firm strategy and the practical application to the business development team.
  • Facilitate effective communication within department and with other business partners.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration and cross-functional teamwork.
  • Coordinate and lead regular team meetings to enhance communication and alignment.
  • Provide regular updates on project status to leadership.
Qualifications

Position Qualifications:

  • 7+ years experience in law firm, legal services, or professional services marketing
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree - MBA preferred. Legal Operations experience preferred.
  • Absolute trustworthiness, confidentiality, and discretion.
  • Demonstrated superb, consistent judgement.
  • Exceptional project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines with a high degree of detail and accuracy.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to anticipate needs, identify opportunities, and drive initiatives to completion. Strong problem-solving skills.
  • A collaborative and team-oriented mindset, with the ability to work effectively a dynamic, results-driven environment.

Compensation and Benefits

The expected salary range for this position is:

  • California Major Markets* $139,000 - $195,000
  • New York City $154,000 - $195,000
  • National $129,000 - $165,000

* California Major Markets includes San Francisco, Silicon Valley, Los Angeles, Orange County, Santa Monica. All other California locations fall within National range.

Orrick is committed to providing a comprehensive, competitive, and thoughtful total compensation package to our attorneys and staff, wherever they work. This compensation and benefits information is based on the Orrick's estimate as of the date of publication and may be modified in the future. The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include, but not limited to, qualifications, relevant experience or education, particular skills or expertise, geography. Other compensation may include an annual discretionary merit bonus, which would be determined by Firm and individual performance.
