Under general supervision, performs a variety of community services related tasks, with increased responsibility, within assigned areas. Directly interacts with participants in a variety of Community Services Programs.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This class is distinguished from that of Community Services Leader by the degree of accountability of the work, greater latitude in exercising independent judgment, oversight of programs and staff, and the performance of some administrative functions. Employee works with independence and initiative within established policies and procedures and performs as lead staff.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general direction from higher level supervisory and management staff. May provide guidance, training, and work direction to Community Service Leaders.

Education and Experience:
18 years of age or older; graduation from high school or equivalent, ability to read and write, One or more years of experience working or volunteering in a community setting including six (6) months of experience in planning, implementing, coaching, and overseeing programs is required.
Knowledge of:
Knowledge of basic rules of programs and activities suitable for a variety of ages dependent on program, and basic knowledge of community service activities is desirable; alphabetical, numerical, and decimal system; English usage, grammar, spelling and punctuation. Ability to Read and write in English; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; file and shelve materials according to prescribed methods of arrangement; operate basic equipment, such as computers, photocopiers, and printers; and handle stress while maintaining a pleasant demeanor work effectively with program participants and other staff members.
Special Requirements:
A valid Class C California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the City's Vehicle Insurance Policy.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate standard office equipment and recreation equipment; reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, squat and crouch repeatedly during a work shift. Physical ability and skill to lift and move up to 50 pounds of bulky materials in a safe manner and to push book trucks loaded with library materials. Manual dexterity and visual acuity to shelve/file and retrieve materials at high and low levels (high shelves can range from approximately 7 to 10 feet) and to carry out processing tasks. Ability to climb stairs, ladders and step stools in a safe manner in order to shelve, file and retrieve materials. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Mental Demands:
While performing the duties of this class, the incumbent is regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data, information and documents; analyze and solve complex problems; use math and mathematical reasoning; work with constant interruptions; and interact with officials and the public.
Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this class. The employee works under typical office conditions; the noise level is usually quiet. However, the employee also works outdoors and is exposed to loud noise under variable weather conditions.
